About
—Last updated November 2018.
A lot has changed in my life since I posted the initial “About Me” several years ago. For nostalgia purposes, you may find the original text at the bottom of this page.
After living in the Bloomington Indiana, USA, area for many years while holding numerous roles at various departments within Indiana University, I opted to relocate out of state for an infrastructure systems administrator position at a clinical software development company. While employed at Forte Research in Madison, Wisconsin, Mary, our two terriers (Machiavelli and Gavin), and I had the pleasure of renting a condo in the nearby city of Middleton. Working at Forte offered fantastic career and knowledge growth, as well as provided me the opportunity of travelling to Asia for the first time. I spent three weeks in Bengaluru, India this past year to assist our international office with their ISO 27001:2013 security audit (which I am happy to report we achieved). I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Wisconsin, and am sure our dogs are missing the parks there already.
Due to my step-mother’s sudden, untimely passing this summer, after much internal discussion, I felt it would be best to move closer to my father. After securing a home in central-Indiana just a month ago, I am now a Technical Services Engineer for a thriving company in Carmel, Indiana. For more information on the technologies I’ve used and the projects I’ve been responsible for, please see my LinkedIN profile (note, due to privacy reasons, you must be logged-in to view the content).
My interests these days include posting photos of our pups to their Instagram page (which, ironically enough, is my only social media presence these days), enjoying live music as often as possible, and travelingl. Though I flew twenty-six times in 2017, I’ve yet to be on a plane this year; however, that is set to change shortly as we’ll be in Las Vegas for a week and fly out in two days (Saturday, 11/10). Mary and I love international travel (have been to Canada twice, Portugal, Gibraltar, and Spain in just the past three years), and are excited for our trip to Greece in the next year!
I’m still a current events and news addict, but find politics as depressing as ever. Data privacy, ethics, and human rights are still major concerns in the United States, with nearly all three seemingly eroding more and more each week. Optimism, yay!
My current goals in life are to relax, read more fiction, and (hopefully) survive the Trump administration. Here’s to hoping Beto O'Rourke announces his 2020 presidential run soon!
My name is Jameson, I currently reside in a condo in central Bloomington, Indiana, USA, with my girlfriend Mary, and have more interests than I care to admit (or have time for). As of this writing I am a Systems & Data Security Administrator for Indiana University; for more information regarding my work history, and thoughts regarding IT best practices, please see my LinkedIN profile. I am currently enrolled at Indiana University in pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree in Informatics, and plan to continue my education for years to come. My end goal is to secure either a Master's in Security Informatics, a law degree, or an MBA; only time will tell.
My interests include music (especially EDM), cooking, reading up on current and world events, luxury/exotic automobiles, non-fiction literature, and helping others. In the rare chance of free-time, I can be found reading the news, enjoying drinks over conversation with friends, attending a dubstep show, collecting another IT Certification, or spending time at home. If I had the time, I would love to travel more, but with a full class and work load currently in play, hopefully I can enjoy another stay in Europe in the near future.
I consider myself to be a privacy and ethics enthusiast. I believe in human rights, and appreciate the Bill of Rights. I used to have an extreme interest in entering into the political realm, yet nowadays find myself backpedaling, realizing I've come a long way and learned even more since my teenage years. Just as the ancient Greek philosopher Plato once said, "Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber. One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors".
My current goals in life are to finish off my Bachelor's degree, complete as many IT certifications as possible, and apply myself in each and every way I can. Love, productivity, and happiness are all you need in life, but sometimes it feels as if you're only allowed to partake in two out of three. I would love relocating to the West Coast, particularly the Seattle, Washington / British Columbia, Canada area within the next five to ten years as well.
If we've met, thanks for stopping by. However, if you're reading this and we do not know one another, I look forward to working with you and your team soon. =)
